What’s the doofenschmirtz contraption/scheme of the day?

Doofenric the Ostrogoth (insert jokes about his daughter Vanessa being “Goth” but in the modern sense) invented a City-Mover-Inator to move Rome across the Danube so his Germanic confederation could sack it.

Thankfully, Agent Pericles stops him by redirecting the Inator to Finius and Ferbingetorix’s New Rome instead, moving it to the Bosphorus.

While Pericles and Doofenric are fighting over the controls of the Inator, it gets accidentally changed to paint remover mode and then fired at a random direction.

Somewhere nearby a painter just finished coloring the statue of the emperor when suddenly all the paint gets removed.

Painter: Aw…

Painter, giving it a second look: Hmmm… 🤔

Candysseia: What animal even is Pericles?

Finius: We named it “platypus”, meaning flat-foot.

Ferbingetorix: On account of his feet being flat.

turns out i wasn’t making that up, his name is Dr. Toru Miyazaki! he also wrote a book called “The Day Cats Live To Be Thirty”, so cats are kind of his thing.

apparently, cats’ kidneys tend to be the thing that takes them down, something about their bodies being unable to self-clean their kidneys, and the vaccine is supposed revitalize the body’s ability to do just that. It would be very VERY fucking cool to have cats suddenly reaching 30 years of age be the normal thing.

Essentially, AIM is a protein that binds to dead cells to tell macrophage to eat them and clear them away. When dead cells block the kidneys of most animals, AIM can get in there and tag the dead cells and blockages are cleared naturally. The AIM in cats can’t get to where it needs to be, and the blockages remain, reducing kidney function until the damage piles up and the kidneys fail.

Injecting AIM directly into the kidneys where it needs to go would cause the macrophages to clear blockages, restoring kidney function.

They’re still very much in trials, but it’s looking hopefully and they’re emphasizing accessibility. Would it actually extend life to 30 years? Eh, hard to tell. But so many cats die of kidney issues that would otherwise live much longer.
